Christuskirche Halsbek - Its History

Christuskirche (Church of Christ)

On 30th August 1958 the foundations of the Christuskirche in Halsbek were laid. On 10th May 1959 the church was inaugurated. On 25th October 1981 the belfry's inauguration followed. Inside the belfry hang the bronze bells delivered by the "Glocken- und Kunstgießerei" from Karlsruhe.

The church has a hipped roof. On the ridge turret you can see a ball and a cross. Together with its canopied main entrance and the belfry the church forms a concinnity. The small bell on the ridge turret is no longer used as it had caused vibrations. In 2002, the small bell was donated to the parish in Romania which is a partner of the protestant parish in Elisabethfehn.

The name 'Christuskirche' was a proposal by the parishoners of Halsbek.

The painter Georg Schmidt-Westerstede created the mosaique on the wall behind the altar. It represents the message of Ascension in the words of the Epistle to the Hebrews.

The 3,60 metres high oval mosaique shows Christ on the throne. His right hand takes the oath and his left hand holds a book on his lap.

In 1960, the company Führer created the organ which you can find in the gallery in the northwestern part of the church, opposite to the chancel.
